Premise

Great news! Magic has returned to the world!! Unfortunately it seems like the magic got a little too excited and now babies with magic powers are causing havoc all over the kingdom. If you are taking care of one such special child please bring them to meet Alabaster the Wizard for some advice and support!

(P.S. If you are expecting please head to the Darkwood and meet with the sorcerer Pr’Log for training to prepare you for a magical baby.)

Create your Parentsona and your child and work together to find complete gathering and crafting quests assigned to you based on your mood and energy levels. Help sooth the discordant magical creatures on your travels and give and receive care baskets from other parents who are going through the same things you are. Keep track of your journey in your quest journal and check back often for rewards and tips on balancing parenthood and your mental health.

Research

Mindfulness has proven to be a helpful tool for managing PND and an excellent preventative tool. Caretaker Calamity allows parents to track their mood and keep themselves stimulated with engaging, but easy to complete puzzles and turn-based gameplay centred around recognising emotions and soothing, which will hopefully allow them to translate this awareness into their own lives and help themselves emotionally regulate.

Moreover the gifting system fosters a sense of community and mutual care without the pressures and toxicity of social media.

The bright visuals and fantasy theme allows for a sense of escapism, but the embedded narrative will always focus on letting the players know that their role as “hero” in this world is intrinsically connected to their role as a parent.

Story

A wave of magic has swept through the land of Ca’re, making fields flourish and the skies shine. Unfortunately this magic also seems to have had the side effect of causing the creatures of the forest to run wild and has given newborns strange powers that seem to be connected to their glowing auras.

King Volker, an expecting father himself, has set his best mages and scholars to the task of figuring out what’s going on. In the meantime he has sent out a royal decree that any families affected should head to Morningdew Forest and report to Alabaster the Wizard.

Of course, no parent wants to put their child in danger! But bottling up magic has dire consequences, so Alabaster and the King have turned the Forest into a great tumble playground where parents can safely tire their little charges out and help them learn to control their magic.

Journal

The Journal acts as a menu system for saving a reviewing progress, but it also has a built in mood tracker generated from the answers given in the Daily Reports so that parents who may be struggling can track their mood without it feeling like a chore.
