Daniel did have a brief when I approached him so I showed him some of my work in the most relevant style to his project and we went from there. We established he wanted something that used Da Vinci’s sketchbooks as a reference Daniel gave me his MDD and a V&A collection to reference.

In response I created the following thumbnails:

Daniel liked them, but needed it clarified that the sketches based off the Vetruvian man where going to use his gnome model as a reference so I sketched this to provide a more detailed idea.

He also wanted to explore the gnome using the glider, so I decided to make more variations of the landscape concept after I had spent some more time studying the style.

Luckily I had already been exploring this renaissance sketchbook style in another project so I did not have to make a new pinterest for it. However because this is such a well documented style I also found some specfic resources that broke it down to make it easier to guide my practice.

I took compositions from my moodboard that had a focus on action or flight and made some more developed sketches.
